The Five Human Design Types
What each type is built for, and how common each one actually is. The percentages here were measured by computing 40,000 charts.
Each bodygraph shows the minimum that defines the type. None of them is a particular person's chart. Coloured centres are defined, outlined ones are open.
The short answer
There are five Human Design types. Generators are the most common at 36.1%. Reflectors are the rarest at 0.95%, roughly one person in a hundred.
| Type | How common | Strategy | Signature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generator | 36.1% | Respond | Satisfaction |
| Manifesting Generator | 31.9% | Respond | Satisfaction |
| Projector | 21.4% | Wait for the invitation | Success |
| Manifestor | 9.6% | Inform | Peace |
| Reflector | 0.95% | Wait a lunar cycle | Surprise |
Your type is decided by which of the nine centers in your chart are defined, and how they connect. It is not a personality label. It describes how your energy is built to work, and therefore how decisions tend to go well or badly for you.
This page is the mechanics. The living part is in the app.
What is here is structure: what is defined, how common it is, what the numbers say. It is dry on purpose, because it is a reference.
How any of it actually shows up in a decision, a conversation or an ordinary week is not something a page can tell you. That is what Omni is for. Enter your birth data once and the chart becomes yours to work with.
Open your chart, freeWhere these numbers come from
These statistics were produced by computing 40,000 complete bodygraphs, using the same engine that runs Omni Chart Reader, and counting the results. The birth moments were spread evenly across the years 1950 to 2025.
This measures the distribution of possible birth moments. A census of living people would come out slightly different, because real births are unevenly spread across the year. Most published percentages do not tell you which of the two they are.
The rarest type: Reflector, at 0.95%
A Reflector has no defined centers at all. Every one of the nine is open, which is why the type is so uncommon: it requires that none of the 26 planetary activations in a chart happens to complete a single channel.
Because nothing in a Reflector is fixed, they take in and amplify whatever is around them. That is why their strategy is to wait a full lunar cycle, about 28 days, before a major decision. It gives the sampling time to average out.
There is no rare gate, and this is measurable
A common question is which Human Design gate is rarest. The premise is wrong. Each of the 64 gates occupies an equal 5.625 degree slice of the wheel, so no gate can be rare in the way a type can.
Across the same 40,000 charts, the least activated gate is gate 16 at 25.2% and the most activated is gate 1 at 36.6%. That narrow spread comes from the planets moving at different speeds through different parts of the zodiac. No gate is scarce. Any page naming one single rarest gate is repeating something rather than measuring it.
Inner authority, measured
Authority is how your body signals a yes or a no. It is not the same as type, and it matters more day to day.
| Authority | How common |
|---|---|
| Emotional | 52.4% |
| Sacral | 32.0% |
| Splenic | 8.9% |
| Self-Projected | 2.6% |
| Mental | 1.8% |
| Ego | 1.4% |
| Lunar | 0.95% |
Just over half of all charts carry Emotional authority, which means a defined Solar Plexus and a decision that should never be made on the spot. Lunar authority is rarest because only Reflectors have it.
Profile, and why six are common and six are not
Profile is the pair of roles you learn through. Six profiles appear roughly seven times more often than the other six.
| Profile | How common |
|---|---|
| 1/3 | 14.8% |
| 6/2 | 14.6% |
| 2/4 | 14.5% |
| 5/1 | 14.3% |
| 3/5 | 14.3% |
| 4/6 | 14.2% |
| 1/4 | 2.5% |
| 3/6 | 2.3% |
| 4/1 | 2.2% |
| 6/3 | 2.2% |
| 2/5 | 2.1% |
| 5/2 | 2.1% |
Why six profiles are common and six are not
This one has a clean mechanical answer, and it is rarely explained.
Your profile is two numbers: the line of your Personality Sun, and the line of your Design Sun. The Design chart is taken at a fixed distance before you were born: 88 degrees of solar arc, which works out to roughly 88 days.
Because that distance is fixed, the gap between the two lines is almost fixed too. Each line spans 0.9375 degrees of the wheel, so 88 degrees is 93.87 lines. Since lines run in sixes, what matters is the remainder: 2.13 lines.
So the Design Sun lands two lines ahead of the Personality Sun almost every time, and three lines ahead only when that leftover 0.13 tips it over. Measured across the sample, the gap is two lines in 86.7% of charts and three lines in 13.3%, which is that 0.13 remainder showing up exactly where you would expect it.
A two-line gap produces 1/3, 2/4, 3/5, 4/6, 5/1 and 6/2: the six common profiles. A three-line gap produces 1/4, 2/5, 3/6, 4/1, 5/2 and 6/3: the six uncommon ones. That is the whole reason. Nothing about the rarer profiles is special or more evolved. They are what happens when the Sun's own varying speed nudges the Design Sun one line further than usual.
Definition, measured
| Definition | How common |
|---|---|
| Split | 47.6% |
| Single | 38.6% |
| Triple Split | 12.1% |
| No Definition | 0.95% |
| Quadruple Split | 0.71% |
Quadruple Split is the rarest definition anyone with defined centers can have, at 0.71%. No Definition belongs only to Reflectors.
Which centers are defined least often
The Head center is defined least often, in 28.3% of charts. The Throat is defined most often, in 68.7%.
| Center | Defined in |
|---|---|
| Throat | 68.7% |
| Sacral | 68.0% |
| Root | 60.7% |
| Spleen | 58.3% |
| G | 58.1% |
| Solar Plexus | 52.4% |
| Ajna | 48.1% |
| Heart | 37.0% |
| Head | 28.3% |
Rarity is not rank
Being a rarer type does not mean being a better one. A Reflector is not more advanced than a Generator, and a 5/2 is not a superior 1/3. The percentages describe how the mechanics distribute, nothing more.
The useful question is whether you are living your design. Almost all of the practical value in Human Design sits in two things: your strategy, and your authority.
